Brian McDermott set to become Leeds United manager

Brian McDermott amendedHaving been touted as the possible successor to Giovanni Trapattoni as manager of the Republic of Ireland, Brian McDermott now looks set to become Leeds United manager later today.

The former Reading boss was the early favourite to take the role after Neil Warnock’s departure but this week saw ex-Chelsea chief Roberto Di Matteo heavily backed to move to the head of the market.

McDermott now looks certain to take over the Championship club with talks between the 52 year-old and Leeds hierarchy  ”at an advanced stage.”

The Slough native had been heavily backed leading to betting being suspended on Wednesday evening with odds having fallen as far 1/7 on the former Arsenal player becoming Elland Road boss.

The potential appointment would mean there is a Brian McDermott in charge of both Leeds’ football and rugby league clubs – with the other Brian already the Leeds Rhinos head coach.

It is thought that former Leeds United midfielder Dominic Matteo is set to join the Yorkshire club in a coaching capacity.
